In 2020, the beauty industry was worth about $532 billion, and most economists assume that this will increase over time. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has definitely impacted this industry, making changes to the way people care for themselves. Stephanie Fatta is one of the top beauty bloggers, so she can share her opinions about how the pandemic has affected this huge industry.

As more people are staying at home, they’re altering their personal care routines. In a survey, 66% of people said that they’re wearing less makeup than they were at the start of the pandemic. “While some people dress up for Zoom calls, there are just as many people who work from home and don’t talk to anyone else all day,” said Fatta. “I understand why makeup use would go down in this case. Not everyone does their makeup unless they have something to dress up for.” Use of personal care products are also down. Before the pandemic, people said they were using three to five personal care products per day. Now, they say they’re using zero to one. This could be caused by depression brought on by the pandemic, which is incredibly common. It’s hard to care for yourself properly when you’re having trouble with your mental health.

However, Stephanie Fatta doesn’t think this is any sort of disaster for beauty bloggers and others in the industry. “First of all, people are still wearing makeup. They’re just putting it on for social media posts, TikToks, and virtual gatherings. These are less common, but no one has forgotten how great they look when they care for themselves.” Plus, many women are wearing makeup when they go outside in a mask, but they’re choosing different products. “Wearing bright red lipstick with your mask is asking for a disaster. However, you can instead opt for a beautiful eye shadow color or mascara.” While interest in beauty products might be down right now, the vaccine is right around the corner. “I think there’s going to be a boom of people wanting to look their best once they’re allowed to go outside and hang out with their friends again. We just have to wait until that happens.”

Stephanie Fatta runs the site, Beauty Brite, a family and lifestyle blog that offers stories from a wide variety of women and moms. Fatta writes reviews of beauty products, emphasizing cruelty-free and organic products. Beauty Brite started as a place for women to share DIY beauty recipes for things like face masks, toothpaste, sugar scrubs, and cleaning supplies. However, it’s grown exponentially since Fatta started the website in 2010. “I think beauty is the perfect outlet for many women. It helps them feel confident and sexy, which is a great way to boost self-esteem.”

Even if you’re not wearing a ton of makeup right now, it’s almost time to get out your lipsticks and eyeshadow palettes! When you’re looking for something new to spice up your beauty routine, Stephanie Fatta’s Beauty Brite is the way to go.
